Just to make sure this is a 2000 does it have a drive shaft runnin from the trainsmission to the front diff case. If it has a chain going to the front wheels then don't read what i wrote below the machine u have is 1999 different chain tightening sequence.

2000 500 Chain adjust:
U shouldn't need to people, its just a typical swing arm setup. Start with the front rear swing arm. Losin the two bolts on the end of the front rear swing arm (can't miss them right on the rear). The bolts don't need to be removed. Now if u look behind the sprocket there should be 1 or 2 holes bored in to the bearing carrier. When i say look behind sprocket i'm say like lay u'r head on the axle and look behind it. Its gonna be hard to find this hole since there is 2 sprockets, in the way. May have to roll to find it. Once u see it, (not for sure how big polaris done them) take a punch, dowel pin, or 1/4 socket extension, what ever will fit in the hole and made of metal. also needs to stick out though the sprocket. Insert it in the hole and roll the atv and let the sprocket hit whatever u have stuck in the hole and it will turn the bearing carrier either tension tighter or looser depending on the direction u rolled the atv.

The rear rear swing arm is no diffrent from the front. Easier since there is only one sprocket in the way. I wish polaris would use a swing arm skid plate instead of those dang round sprocket guards. Those things are in the way of adjustments.

Well since u'r lookin at the machine in real time, let me know if u found the things i'm tellin u about, because i'm goin by parts breakdown. Before u start go ahead and look for that hole in the rear rear swing arm, u'll find it easier since there ain't as much stuff in the way. Don't adjust the rear rear first. well hope this helps out let me know somethin. post back if u don't get it or need more info. Might can get u some breakdowns or pics. Sorry it took such a long post, so much stuff on the 6x6's, polaris designed them so crazy lookin.
