Turbocharger or Supercharger?

Postby thehemi » Thu Jan 21, 2010 5:08 pm

I've been out of pocket for a long while since my kiddos arrived.
How have the turbocharged and supercharged 4-strokes been doing?
Is either one of them taking more of a hold on the industry now?

Hey Hemi how is it goin? The Polaris MSX 110 is turbocharged and it is awesome. 168 hrs and never touched a part on it other than the oil filter and fill cap. Its quiet never know its runnin, and loads of power. I love hearing that turbo wind up(like those turbo diesels) on take off or when u'r towing a tube. I think there all pretty good machines now a days. Maintaining them is the main thing. If i was to get another one it would be a kawi, since polaris no longer builds um. Honda had a lot of issues with there turbos first and second year machines, probably gotten the kinks out by now though. I couldn't tell ya which is better supercharger or turbo. Turbo u have split second lag on a really quick take-off. Super-charger doesn't since it spins by crank, cam, or a gear off the motor power. But since the motor is turning the charger by shaft it pulls on the motor a little all the way through the RPM range. Turbo just uses usless exhuast gases to spin up. So looks like there isn't really a winner there, just preference i guess. When 4 strokes first came out i thought it wouldn't work out. Took me couple years to say that will actaully work. It was the outboard motors that had me screwed up, how do u pump oil through a motor standin straight up and down. 2 strokes are gonna absoulete looks like. How's the virage runnin? later.

I'm doing well. The Virage TX is still running great (although its low hours).

I don't think I will ever get another 2-stroke. I think their days are numbered.
I just wish these new boats were so huge. I thought my 650# Virage TX was on
the fat side, but these days its a lightweight! Follows modern vehicle trends.

Maybe I need to get a stand-up next? :)
